TITUSVILLE, Florida — Just before 3 p.m. on Saturday, the Titusville Police Department received a call about a motor vehicle crash with injuries. The caller told the police that the crash, involving a sport utility vehicle and a motorcycle, occurred on South Hopkins Avenue directly behind Titusville High School.
Police say that independent witnesses reported that the motorcycle, operated by 39-year-old Jaromy David Swift, was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound when it collided with the sport utility vehicle.
Swift, who police say was not wearing a helmet, sustained critical injuries and was flown by medical helicopter to Orlando Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash.
The driver of the SUV, 33-year-old Michael W. Williams, was treated and released at a local hospital.
Police said in a release that it is unknown at this time if alcohol and/or drugs played a role in this crash. The accident is still actively being investigated.
