PALM BAY, Florida — Palm Bay Police Detectives with the Major Case Unit continue to investigate a shooting that occurred late Tuesday night.
At approximately 10:15 p.m., patrol officers and fire-rescue medics responded to 944 Burns Drive for reports of a shooting. When rescuers arrived, they found the victim, 22-year-old Lasalle Randall III, in the driveway with a gunshot wound to the right shoulder area. Lasalle was taken to the hospital for treatment and has since been released.
“The investigation has revealed the victim had attempted to intervene in a physical fight involving two black females,” Palm Bay Police spokesperson Yvonne Martinez wrote in a release. “The women are cousins and had apparently been involved in a family feud over the last year that most recently escalated through verbal comments made on Facebook. The cousins met at the home on Burns Drive and ended up fighting. There were approximately 14 people at the home during this time, including the victim. As the victim tried to break up the fight he then got into a physical fight with another black male who is not being identified at this time. During this fight, a shot was fired, wounding the victim.”
Detectives are continuing to interview the witnesses as well as the victim but have been unable to locate the individual with whom the victim fought. “The victim and the witnesses are not being cooperative,” said Detective Virginia Kilmer. “We are still conducting interviews and trying to locate the other person involved in the fight.”
