MELBOURNE, Florida — The Florida Highway Patrol reported that 53-year-old Alfred Walker of Melbourne, Florida is listed in critical condition at Holmes Regional Medical Center following injuries he sustained in a traffic accident onUS-1 in Melbourne, Florida that occurred around 5:40 p.m. today just south of the intersection of Pineda Causeway (State Road 404).
FHP troopers say that Walker was driving a 1995 Pontiac Firebird southbound on US-1 while 43-year-old Marna Novak, also of Melbourne, was driving a 2008 Saturn Outlook northbound on the same highway. For unknown reasons, the Firebird traveled over the raised curb grass median and traveled into the northbound lanes. The front of the Outlook then struck the rear of the Firebird.
A third vehicle that was also traveling northbound, a 2005 Chevy SUV driven by 56-year-old Karen Torpy of Rockledge, Florida, swerved to the right and struck the metal guardrail on the east shoulder.
Novak and her 8-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries. Torpy did not sustain any injuries.
An FHP report indicates that everyone involved in the crash were wearing their seat belts.
