MELBOURNE, Florida — Melbourne police say that a homeless woman who attempted to rob a Domino’s Pizza and her homeless getaway driver have been arrested in Melbourne.
Melbourne Police received a call at 2:09 p.m. on Monday after a woman walked into Domino’s Pizza (310 W. New Haven Avenue) and handed the clerk a note that implied she may be armed with a firearm and she wanted money from the business.
After being denied cash, the woman exited the store and entered the passenger side of a white four-door vehicle that fled the area. No firearm was ever displayed. A Melbourne Police detective who was in the area soon spotted the suspect vehicle as it turned onto Gateway Drive toward West NASA Boulevard. Once on West NASA Boulevard, the male driver and female passenger fled eastbound on foot after abandoning their vehicle at the Social Security office located at 1715 W. NASA Boulevard).
Police officers immediately set up a perimeter and the suspects, Lynell Reeves, 32, and Jessie Curtis, 26, were soon taken into custody without incident. Reeves was charged with the robbery attempt. She and Curtis were also charged with grand theft for two other unrelated incidents at a local Wal Mart. In those cases, Curtis and Reeves were suspected of stealing lap top computers.
During the course of this incident, the nearby Florida Air Academy was placed on a precautionary lock down due to its close proximity to the Domino’s Pizza. Police say that no students were in jeopardy and that this was done only as a safety measure. Investigators are also looking into the possibility that Reeves is responsible for a similar robbery attempt that occurred this weekend at a pharmacy in Palm Bay.
