"Coats for Kids" Drive In November

Anderson
MELBOURNE, Fla.– Brevard County Commissioner Andy Anderson will participate in the fourth annual Coats for Kids during the month of November 2013.
Coats for Kids is a countywide initiative to combat the growing problem of children without winter coats.  During the previous three drives, over 2,500 coats were collected for Brevard children in need.

The Coats for Kids drive will run Nov. 1 through Nov. 30. Only new coats will be collected. All Brevard County libraries and the BankFIRST locations in Suntree, Titusville and Melbourne are drop-off locations. Residents can give the coats to the employees at the front desk.

This year, all donations will be given to the Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) of Brevard County.  Every year, hundreds of abused and neglected children become the subject of judicial proceedings in Brevard County and Guardian ad Litem volunteers are assigned to act as investigator, monitor, protector, spokesperson and reporter for the child before the court, social service agencies and the community to ensure that the child’s best interests are represented.  There are approximately 600 children currently in this program.  This is the GAL program’s 25th year of serving Brevard children.
