Jewelry Heist At Melbourne Square Mall: VIDEO

MELBOURNE, Florida — Just before 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Melbourne Square Mall security personnel contacted the Melbourne Police Department to report a burglary of Reeds Jewelers.
Police say that, at this point in the investigation, it appears an unknown number of suspects entered into the mall in the overnight or early morning hours by cutting a hole in the roof.  From there, the suspects then made their way into Reeds Jewelers by cutting a hole through the jewelry store’s ceiling.  Once inside, only specific jewelry items were targeted by the burglars.  The total cost of the merchandise is not currently known but is believed to be in the thousands of dollars range.

Melbourne police did respond to an alarm call at Reeds Jewelers at 5:02 a.m. While on scene, officers were unable to see the hole in the ceiling due to it being in a back office that was not visible from the exterior of the store.  The showroom was not in disarray as the merchandise that was stolen was done so by opening a rear sliding door to a display case.  Also, the steel security shutters to the business were closed and locked, police say.

This case remains under investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Central Florida CRIMELINE at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
