Woman Hit By Car, Killed In Titusville

TITUSVILLE, Florida — Just before 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Titusvile police received a call for a motor vehicle crash with injuries.  The caller told police that the crash, involving a four-door sedan and a pedestrian, occurred on the westbound lanes of Cheney Highway (State Road 50) at the intersection of Windover Way.  Police say that independent witnesses reported that a white female pedestrian was running northbound across Cheney Highway when she was struck by the sedan.

After first responders arrived, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.  As of 11 p.m. on Tuesday, the woman’s next-of-kin had not been notified and her name is not being released by police.

The driver of the sedan, 81-year-old Raymond Gunnink, was not injured in the crash. Police say that Gunnink did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.  Preliminary investigations indicate the white female pedestrian is at fault in this fatal crash, police say.  Police also said that there were indications that the woman was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs which possibly played a role in this crash.
