INDIALANTIC, Florida — Unbeknownst to authorities until today, another person had died as a result of injuries he sustained during a vehicle crash that occurred just before 1 p.m. on Saturday in Indialantic, Florida.
According to FHP reports, 59-year-old Nancy Chancey of Indialantic was driving a 2010 Dodge Charger at a high rate of speed northbound on State Road A1A in the outside lane. Meanwhile, a 1996 Volvo driven by 57-year-old Deborah Cook of Maryland was also traveling northbound ahead of the Charger.
As the Charger approached the Volvo, Chancey attempted to change into the inside northbound lane. The front, right of the Charger then struck the left, rear of the Volvo. The Charger then left the roadway, struck a culvert, and became airborne while overturning. Chancey, who was not wearing her seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and later died. The Charger then struck a telephone pole, a wall, a gate, and caught fire. Chancey was transported to the Brevard County Medical Examiner’s Office. Cook suffered no injuries. Just before 9 a.m. today, 60-year-old Art Stroud, also of Indialantic, was discovered by a homeowner and an electrician in the thick brush and treeline on the east shoulder in front of the 2100 block of State Road A1A.
FHP investigators believe that Stroud was walking on the east shoulder of A1A and was struck by the Charger sometime after the initial crash.
