Car Crashes Into Merritt Island Hallmark Store

MERRITT ISLAND, Florida —   80-year-old Joanne Youngblood of Rockledge, Florida was driving a 2009 Hyundai in the parking lot of a shopping plaza located at 125 East Merritt Island Causeway in Merritt Island, Florida.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, as Youngblood attempted to park in a parking space, she hit the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal.  The Hyundai then hit a 2007 Chevy 4-Door and continued into the front of a Hallmark Card store located in the shopping plaza.

Youngblood was ticketed for careless driving and will be recommended by FHP for a driver’s license re-examination.

  • People reaching this age should have to be evaluated more frequently for that drivers license. Obviously, this woman should not have one.Over this past year, I've seen at least a dozen of similar postings of very old drivers losing control of their vehicles.
