At approximately 2 p.m. on Thursday, deputies responded to a 911 emergency call advising that a victim was shot. Once on scene, it was determined that the victim was 12-years-old and had been shot in the leg during the incident. The victim was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando, Florida in stable condition with what are being reported as non-life threatening injuries.
Witnesses told the deputies that the suspects fled the area in a red Chrysler 300 last seen heading toward State Road 520. Deputies immediately responded to the area and were able to locate the vehicle on Calvado Drive in Cocoa. Three subjects were detained and interviewed by Sheriff’s Agents. Investigators said yesterday that it appeared as if the victim was the target of the incident.
West Precinct General Crimes Agents later developed probable cause for the arrest of 25-year-old Dontarius Terelle Jones of Cocoa. Jones was charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, Discharge of a Firearm from a Motor Vehicle, Discharge of a Firearm on a Roadway and Aggravated Child Abuse.
