Bicyclist Struck, Killed On State Road 50

ORLANDO, Florida — The Florida Highway Patrol is reporting that a bicyclist was struck and killed at approximately 2:33 a.m. Friday morning on State Road 50 near the intersection of Tanner Road just east of Orlando, Florida.

According to FHP reports, 20-year-old Nicholas Lee Smith of Orlando was riding a bicycle in an unknown direction on State Road 50 in the eastbound lanes.

Meanwhile, 23-year-old Daniel Stafford Strickler of Titusville was driving a 1997 Toyota Tacoma east on State Road 50 in the outside lane.  FHP says that the Tacoma collided with the bicycle. The collision threw Smith off the bicycle and into the outside lane.  

Smith was then struck by a 2012 Honda Civic driven by 32-year-old Christian Mendoza of Orlando, Florida.

The crash remains under investigation.

  • Look up Mr. Strickler's driving record in the Brevard County Clerk of Courts web site. Another FL reckless/aggressive driver who now has managed to cause someone's death.
