COCOA, Florida — The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a fatal crash occurred on State Road 528 (the Beachline) near State Road 407 just after 3 a.m. on Monday.
According to FHP, a 27-year-old Orlando, Florida man was driving a 2004 Cadillac SRX westbound on State Road 528 near mile marker 37. Meanwhile, 30-year-old Jose Molina of Port St. Lucie, Florida was driving a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta westbound on State Road 528 behind the Cadillac.
For an unknown reason, the Cadillac drove onto the unpaved shoulder which caused the vehicle to rotate. The left side of the Cadillac then struck a guardrail which caused the vehicle to overturn. Both the driver and a 24-year-old Orlando female passenger were ejected from the vehicle.
The Jetta, and another unidentified vehicle that was also traveling westbound, swerved to avoid striking the Cadillac. However, both vehicles struck the ejected driver. Molina then pulled the Jetta over onto the shoulder of the road while the unidentified vehicle fled the scene. Molina will face no charges. The Cadillac driver was pronounced deceased on the scene. His passenger was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center in critical condition. FHP says that neither were wearing their seat belts. Their identities have not been release pending next-of-kin notification.
