Hurricane Edouard Projected Path Update

MIAMI, Florida — As of 5 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, NOAA’s National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida has issued a public advisory due to the presence of Hurricane Edouard located over the Atlantic Ocean far off the U.S. east coast.

Hurricane Edouard is located about 575 miles east-northeast of Bermuda and is moving to the northeast at 20 miles per hour.  Edouard has maximum sustained winds of 90 miles per hour which makes this tropical cyclone a Category 1 Hurricane.

Edouard’s wind field has expanded since yesterday.  Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles, and tropical storm force winds up to 205 miles, from the center of the hurricane.

NOAA’s Hurricane Edouard track forecasts that Edouard will remain over the open Atlantic through the week while retaining hurricane strength through Wednesday before weakening into a tropical storm on Thursday.  Edouard is forecast to near the Azores by Sunday.

Some spaghetti models forecast that Hurricane Edouard could make a u-turn and head back towards the U.S. as far south as Florida latitudes while other models forecast that Edouard will continue to the east-northeast.
