MELBOURNE, Florida — Investigators with the Melbourne Police Department have identified the victim of a fatal stabbing that occurred early Saturday morning in downtown Melbourne, Florida.
Thirty-year-old Reginald Garoute was found in a field just west of US1 on New Haven Avenue at 2:15 a.m. after he had suffered stab wounds to his upper body. He was pronounced deceased 45 minutes later at a local hospital.
At this time, Investigators believe Garoute was stabbed at the 900 block of East New Haven Avenue. It appears he then made his way east on foot to the field in which he was found. Investigators also believe that there may be witnesses to the crime since the stabbing happened around the time downtown bars and restaurants were closing.
