ORANGE COUNTY, Florida — The Florida Highway Patrol reported that a fatal crash occurred on State Road 50 (East Colonial Drive) near Cox Road just after 8 a.m. on Thursday.

According to FHP, a 53-year-old Edgewater, Florida man was driving a 2015 Chevy Cruze eastbound on State Road 50.  Meanwhile, 50-year-old Edward Perdue of Port St. John, Florida was riding a 2013 Honda motorcycle westbound on State Road 50.

For an unknown reason, the driver of the Cruze lost control and traveled across the median and westbound lanes of State Road 50. The Cruze then traveled onto the north shoulder and struck a culvert.  The Cruze then overturned on its right side and its top struck a tree.

As the Cruze traveled across the westbound lanes of State Road 50, Perdue dropped the motorcycle he was riding to avoid the collision.  Neither Perdue nor his motorcycle collided with the Cruze.  Although Perdue separated from the motorcycle, he only sustained minor injuries.

The identity of the Cruze driver who died during the accident has not been released pending next-of-kin notification.
