Florida Gas Prices Jump 6 Cents Overnight

Gas prices are back on the rise after having fallen under $2 per gallon in several cities across the U.S, including Florida.  According to GasBuddy.com, the average price for regular gas in Florida has jumped 6 cents from $2.076 yesterday to $2.132 today.  Nationwide, the average price for regular gas jumped 4 cents overnight.  Despite the recent spike, gas prices are still 17 cents lower in the Sunshine State and 9 cents lower across the U.S. from last month.

The average price of gas in January was $2.11 per gallon, which was the cheapest monthly average since April 2009, according to AAA.  Gas prices in December 2014 averaged a much higher $2.51 per gallon, while the average was $3.30 per gallon in January 2014.  AAA estimates that Americans are spending about $365 million less per day on gasoline compared to this time last year.

“It is a good bet that most drivers will pay more for gasoline in March than today,” said Avery Ash, AAA spokesman. “Yet even if gas prices increase as expected, drivers should continue paying at least a dollar less on gasoline than what they spent in recent years during the spring.”
