Full Moon May 3, 2015

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida — There will be a Full Moon tonight, Sunday, May 3, 2015, beginning with a moonrise over the Atlantic Ocean at 7:43 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time which sets tomorrow morning at 7:06 a.m. (with a few minutes of variation depending on your exact location in Florida or several minutes along the rest of the U.S. east coast).

According to the U.S. Naval Observatory, this Full Moon will technically be 99% full at 11:42 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time tonight. A May Full Moon’s seasonal name is known as the Flower Moon, Milk Moon, or Corn-planting Moon.

For those planning a moonlit stroll along the beach on Florida’s Space Coast, this Full Moon brings along with it a 3’9″ Atlantic Ocean high tide that will occur around 8:34 p.m., with a few minutes of variation depending on your exact location.  A very low tide will occur at 2:40 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.

The timing of May’s full moon in 2015 will also likely wash out the Eta Aquarid meteor shower.
