BREVARD COUNTY, Florida – On the Brevard County Public School Board Meeting Agenda that is scheduled to take place tonight at 5:30 p.m. is proposal to continue to impose a special 1.500 mill capital outlay property tax. The special tax is expected to raise $47 million for school capital outlay projects. Many of the items listed in the official notice are also items that the half-cent sales tax was earmarked to fund. Additionally, this special millage tax would also fund Enterprise Resource Software, the same software project that has drawn criticism by parent activists and auditors. The project is also under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

NOTICE OF TAX FOR SCHOOL CAPITAL OUTLAY
The School Board of Brevard County, Florida will soon consider a measure to continue to impose a 1.500 mill property tax for the capital outlay projects listed herein.
This tax is in addition to the school board’s proposed tax of 5.775 mills for operating expenses and is proposed solely at the discretion of the school board.
THE PROPOSED COMBINED SCHOOL BOARD TAX INCREASE FOR BOTH OPERATING EXPENSES AND CAPTIAL OUTLAY IS SHOWN IN THE ADJACENT NOTICE
The Capital Outlay tax will generate approximately $47,786,259 to be used for the following projects:
CONSTRUCTION AND REMODELING:
Facilities modifications, educational technology projects, and energy conservation projects at various sites
MAINTENANCE, RENOVATION, AND REPAIR:
Facility renewal and maintenance at various sites
MOTOR VEHICLE PURCHASES:
Purchase of up to Forty (40) School Buses
NEW AND REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT, COMPUTERS, ENTERPRISE RESOURCE SOFTWARE, AND S. 1011.71(2), F.S., ELIGIBLE EXPENDITURES IN SUPPORT OF DIGITAL CLASSROOMS PLANS PURSUANT TO S. 1011.62(12), F.S.:
Purchase new and replacement equipment and furniture for various sites
Purchase of district-wide software
PAYMENTS FOR EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES AND SITES DUE UNDER A LEASE PURCHASE AGREEMENT:
Annual payments due under master lease-purchase agreements for various facilities district wide
PAYMENTS FOR RENTING AND LEASING EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES AND SITES:
One (1) year lease of classroom space
PAYMENTS OF LOANS APPROVED PURSUANT TO S.S. 1011.14 AND 1011.15, F.S.:
Payment of principal and interest due under revenue anticipation notes for re-roofing, renewal, and educational technology infrastructure projects at various sites
PAYMENT OF COSTS OF COMPLIANCE WITH ENVIRONMENTAL STATUTES, RULES, AND REGULATIONS:
Improvement of environmental conditions at various sites
PAYMENT OF PREMIUMS FOR PROPERTY AND CASUALTY INSURANCE NECESSARY TO INSURE THE EDUCATIONAL AND ANCILLARY PLANTS OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT:
Insurance premiums on district facilities
