National Hurricane Center: Tropical Depression Grace Dissipates

UPDATE: Tropical Storm Grace has dissipated.

MIAMI, Florida — As of 5 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, the National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida has issued a public advisory due to the presence of Tropical Storm Grace, the seventh named storm of the 2015 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

Tropical Storm Grace is located 1360 miles east of the Lesser Antilles and is moving to the west at 20 miles per hour. This general westerly direction is expected to continue over the next 48 hours. Grace has maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour, with higher gusts.  Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from Grace’s center.

Grace will interact with increasing southwesterly to westerly vertical wind shear and dry mid-level air which should cause Grace to weaken during the next few days. According to NHC forecasters, Grace is forecast to weaken to a tropical depression later today, and become a remnant low within the next couple of days.

SPAGHETTI MODELS

Spaghetti models are in general agreement that Tropical Storm Grace (or its remnants) will continue in a west-northwesterly direction over the next five days towards the eastern Caribbean.  Most models begin to diverge with each other about Grace’s projected path after Friday. Some models take Grace (or its remnants) south of Puerto Rico by Saturday while other models forecast that Grace will head near or over Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic this weekend. However, there remains a large amount of uncertainty that far out into the forecast.
