Central Florida Mosque Vandalized, Bacon Left At Door


UPDATE: Florida Man Charged With Vandalizing Mosque, Left Bacon At Door

TITUSVILLE, Florida – A mosque in Brevard County, Florida was vandalized and bacon left at the front door on Friday night, according to the Titusville Police Department.

Just after 6 a.m. on Saturday, Titusville police responded to a report of a burglary at The Islamic Society of Central Florida Masjid Al-Munin Mosque located at 1011 South Washington Avenue in Titusville, Florida.

Titusville police say that the preliminary investigation reveals the mosque was vandalized. Several cameras, lights and windows were broken. Bacon was also left by the front door of the mosque. Consumption of pork and pork products is prohibited by Islamic Dietary Laws  derived from commandments found in the Koran.

According to police, the surveillance footage shows an unidentified male entering into the mosque carport at approximately 11:00 p.m. on Friday, January 1, 2015. The suspect pulled a machete from a bag and used the machete to cause the damage to the mosque.

Titusville Police detectives say that they are analyzing the surveillance footage as well as investigating strong leads in this case.
