PORT CANAVERAL, Florida – The Royal Carribean cruise ship Anthem of the Seas with over 4,000 passengers aboard was pounded by hurricane-force winds of over 100 mph and waves estimated to be up to 30 feet in height off the Carolinas on its way to the Bahamas from Cape Liberty, New Jersey.
The 7-day cruise has been cut short and the Anthem of the Seas will now divert to Port Canaveral, Florida where it is expected to dock by noon Eastern Standard Time.
Passengers aboard the cruise ship tweeted photos and video of the rough seas and the damage caused inside.
The Anthem of the Seas is the newest ship of Royal Carribean’s Quantum class with a 167,000 gross tonnage. The ship was christened in April 2015.
