MIAMI, Florida – NOAA’s National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida has issued a Public Advisory at 5 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, due to the presence of Tropical Depression Karl over the Atlantic Ocean.
Tropical Depression Karl Projected Path
Tropical Depression Karl is located about 350 miles northeast of the Leeward Islands and is moving to the west at 14 miles per hour. NHC forecasters believe that Karl will continue a west-northwest to northwest motion at a slightly increased forward speed through Thursday.
Tropical Depression Karl Strength
Tropical Depression Karl has maximum sustained winds of 35 mph (55 km/h), with higher gusts.
NHC forecasters expect that the tropical cyclone will strengthen back into Tropical Storm Karl by Thursday and a Category 1 Hurricane by Sunday.
Tropical Depression Karl Computer Models
Computer models are in general agreement that Tropical Depression Karl will continue on a northwesterly projected path through Friday. After 72 hours, spaghetti models begin to disagree only slightly as to when Karl will make a northeasterly hook back into the open Atlantic.
NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center forecasts that the 2016 Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 through November 30, will be the most active hurricane season in four years. The middle of September is the historical peak of hurricane season.
