Police Dog Left In Hot Florida Patrol Car Dies

MELBOURNE, Florida – A Florida police dog died after being left in a hot patrol car by his handler outside the Brevard County Courthouse in Melbourne, Florida.
So far, few details have been released regarding the circumstances that led up to the Sebastian Police Department K-9’s death other than that the death was reported around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2017. The K-9’s handler has not yet been identified.
“The situation is being investigated by the Melbourne Police Department and when their investigation is over, an administrative investigation will occur here with the Sebastian Police Department,” Commander John Blackledge wrote in a statement. “Our entire department is saddened by Diesel’s tragic death; please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.”

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, temperatures climbed to a high of 88 degrees Fahrenheit on Friday.

Originally, the Sebastian Police Department had posted about the K-9’s death on its Facebook page, but the post was removed around noon on Wednesday.
