Brevard County Leaks 375,000 Gallons Of Raw Sewage In Satellite Beach

SATELLITE BEACH, Florida – Around 375,000 gallons of raw sewage was released into the Indian River Lagoon this morning after a sewage pipe broke in Satellite Beach, Florida.
According to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, a corroded iron pipe caused a force main break near 1390 South Patrick Drive.
Brevard County utility crews estimate that 375,000 gallons of raw sewage leaked into a storm drain that leads into a canal between Cinnamon Court and Island View Drive. The canal flows south between Island View Drive and Lansing Drive to Venetian Way.
Crews are using pumper trucks to transport the remaining sewage to the County’s South-Central Wastewater Treatment Plant in Viera.
Brevard County has posted signs warning residents to avoid swimming, fishing or wading in canals in the area until further notice.

“The County Commission today released more raw sewage into the Indian River Lagoon. Can’t blame ‘rain’ this time,” Florida State Representative Randy Fine wrote on his Facebook page.
