New Smyrna Beach Man Killed In Volusia County Crash

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Florida – A New Smyrna Beach died as a result of injuries he sustained in a crash that occurred just before 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2019, near the intersection of State Road 44 and Samsula Drive in Volusia County, Florida.

64-year-old Gary Boles of New Smyrna Beach, Florida was driving a 2000 Toyota pickup truck westbound on State Road 44.

Meanwhile, 25-year-old Andrew Dos Santos of Longwood, Florida was driving a 2016 Ford pickup truck eastbound on State Road 44.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Boles attempted to make a left turn to head south on Samsula Drive, causing the Toyota to turn into the direct path of the Ford.

The front of the Ford then struck the right side of the Toyota.

Boles was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Florida‎ where he later died.

Boles was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, according to FHP reports.

Dos Santos was wearing his seat belt and did not suffer any injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
