Brevard Sheriff Wayne Ivey Walks Animal Cruelty Suspect To Jail

COCOA, Florida - Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey and Corporal Chris Sauro of the BCSO Animal Cruelty Investigative Unit personally walked Ronald Peacock of Cocoa, Florida into the Brevard County Jail after he was arrested on charges of Animal Cruelty and Resisting Arrest.

Investigators say that Peacock failed to provide proper nutrition or veterinarian care for a mixed breed dog that he owned and was fully responsible for.

The investigation was initiated after Brevard County Sheriff’s Office of Animal Services responded to Peacock’s residence in Cocoa, Florida where they found the dog, named “Thor,” extremely emaciated.

At the time of the initial investigation, Peacock was issued a citation and ordered to take “Thor” for veterinarian care within 48 hours.

Upon a return inspection, it was found that the dog had been taken to a local veterinarian. However, Thor had only received vaccinations and heart-worm treatment.

Peacock told investigators that he could not afford the medication to treat the dog and could not afford the amount of food necessary to bring the dog’s weight to an acceptable level so he was not going to do anything further.

BCSO then seized “Thor” and transported the dog to Animal Services where he was examined by veterinarian staff who determined that he was suffering from extreme malnutrition due to neglect.

Peacock was subsequently charged with one count of Animal Cruelty and one count of Resisting Arrest without violence for allegedly attempting to flee.

Peacock was transported to the Brevard County Jail where he is being held on a $2,500.00 bond.

“For the life of me, I just don’t understand how someone could be so cruel as to allow an innocent creature to suffer, especially when there are so many different organizations out there that would help feed and nurse this little guy back to health,” Sheriff Ivey wrote on Facebook.

“Well, at least he is now safe and sound in our Animal Care Center under the care of our incredible veterinarians and staff!! I hate to sound like a broken record but once again let me be very clear…if you harm an animal in Brevard County I am personally going to walk your butt into our jail and slam the door shut in your face!!”
