SEMINOLE COUNTY, Florida – A Deltona, Florida man died as a result of injuries he sustained in a crash that occurred on the State Road 46 near the intersection with Bella Forresta Place in Seminole County, Florida just before 6 a.m. on Monday, December 2, 2019.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 48-year-old Deltona man was driving a 2005 Toyota 4-door eastbound on State Road 46.
Meanwhile, 37-year-old Meryck Foster of Lake Helen, Florida was driving a 2017 Ford pickup truck westbound on State Road 46.
Witnesses told FHP troopers that the Toyota was passing other eastbound vehicles in a passing zone.
As the Toyota approached the Forda in the westbound lanes, Foster swerved left to avoid the Toyota.
But the Ford re-entered the eastbound lanes beforehand and the front of the Toyota struck the front of the Ford head-on. The Toyota then caught fire.
The Deltona man was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was later transported to the Seminole County Medical Examiner’s Office.
FHP has not released his identity pending next-of-kin notification.
Foster suffered severe injuries and was transported to Central Florida Regional Medical Center.
Neither of the drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash and Foster was not under the influence of alcohol, according to FHP reports.
A toxicology report is pending for the Deltona man.
The crash remains under investigation.
