Two Dogs Eaten By Florida Alligators In Separate Incidents

INDIANTOWN, Florida – Martin County Sheriff’s deputies are warning residents about an increase in aggressive alligator calls after a second dog was killed in Indiantown, Florida.

Deputies say that an 8-foot gator was captured and trapped after he grabbed, killed and consumed a neighborhood dog.

This is the second dog killed by an alligator in that area in the last few weeks.

According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the alligators are moving about on land and can be very aggressive due to heavy rains.

Alligators are opportunistic predators with an indiscriminate appetite that includes fish, birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, and even fruit.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission recommends that you never feed an alligator and keep your distance if you see one.

Swim only in designated swimming areas during daylight hours. And keep pets on a leash and away from the water.
