Cocoa Pedestrian Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash

COCOA, Florida – 38-year-old Jason Strandberg did not survive the injuries he sustained in an early morning New Year’s Day crash on Friday Road in Cocoa, Florida.

48-year-old Eric Ferguson of Melbourne, Florida was driving a 2006 Infinity G35 northbound on Friday Road near the intersection of Baggett Place just after 3 a.m. on Wednesday, January 1, 2020.

The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating exactly where Strandberg was in the northbound lanes of Friday Road.

The front of the Infinity struck Strandberg and then ran over him.

According to FHP, Ferguson fled the scene in the Infinity.

Strandberg, of Cocoa, Florida, died at the scene and was later transported to the Brevard County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Car parts were located on the scene indicating the vehicle that left the scene was a Nissan.

At approximately 5 a.m., Ferguson called the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office via 911 stating that he had struck someone with his vehicle.

An FHP trooper later arrested Ferguson for leaving the scene of a fatal crash.

A toxicology report is pending to determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
