ORLANDO, Florida – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will announce on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, his plan to reopen Florida’s economy that is expected to follow the Phase One reopening guidelines issued by the White House.

According to the White House guidelines, restaurants with sit down dining would be allowed to reopen under strict physical distancing protocols, along with movie theaters, sporting venues, and places of worship. But bars would remain closed.

Elective surgeries could resume, as clinically appropriate, on an outpatient basis.

Parks, outdoor recreation areas, shopping areas, gyms could also reopen.

Schools that are currently closed would remain closed.

Visits to senior living facilities and hospitals would remain prohibited.

“Great meeting with President @realDonaldTrump at the @WhiteHouse discussing all things #COVID19 and FL’s strong efforts to protect vulnerable populations & to expand testing in an innovative way. @POTUS & his administration have provided great support for FL each step of the way,” DeSantis tweeted on Tuesday.

Orange County has developed detailed guidelines for restaurants, malls, theme parks, spas, hairdressers, nail salons, and daycare. Other Florida counties will likely develop similar guidelines.

Under the Orange County proposed guidelines, restaurants would be required to use disposable menus, limit seating to 50% capacity, provide hand sanitizer at every table, and bartenders would be required to wash their hands after making each drink.
