Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle: Earth Day Celebrations April 21 - 22, 2012 in Palm Bay

Palm Bay, Florida - Earth Day Celebrations are taking place the weekend of April 21 and 22, 2012 at the Franklin T. DeGroodt Memorial :Library in Palm Bay.

Saturday, April 21, 2012 will kick off the library magazine exchange table.  The library will host a continuous magazine swap as a way of recycling, reusing and reducing printed material.  Take a magazine or leave a magazine.  It’s free and it’s a great way to recycle.

From 2:00 pm until 2:30 pm Saturday, April 21, 2012, Dave Lindemann of Sweet Leaf Aquaponics will host Introduction to Aquaponics in the library meeting room.  Aquaponics is an eco-friendly sustainable form of gardening that combines the practices of hydroponics and aquaculture without the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides.

Get ready for the weekend by clearing out paper clutter from your home.  The library will have free paper shredding available on site from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm.  All the paper will be recycled.  Individuals are limited to five boxes or bags for free.  Additional boxes or bags are $3 each.

On Sunday, April 22,2012 from 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm, the library is reusing and upcycling an old card catalog into a repository for a seed exchange.  Master Gardener, Lucia Chankersingh will discuss the ins and outs of saving seeds, when to harvest them, how to store them and the difference between open-pollinated and hybrid seeds.
