Indian Mound Station Sanctuary Prescribed Fire Today

        MIMS, Fla. - A five-acre prescribed fire within the Indian Mound Station Sanctuary in Mims is planned for Tuesday, September 13 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. by Brevard County’s Environmentally Endangered  Lands Program with the assistance of the Florida Division of Forestry.

       Prescribed fires involve the careful application of fire by professionals under specific weather and fuel conditions to achieve environmental resource management goals.  Benefits include the reduction of wildfire risk, habitat restoration and the recycling of nutrients back into the soil.
