National Hurricane Center: Tropical Storm Warnings Issued For Texas, Louisiana

NOAA's National Hurricane Center has issued Tropical Storm Warnings for Texas and Louisiana due to the presence of Potential Tropical Cyclone Three that may become Tropical Storm Cindy before making landfall along the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Potential Tropical Cyclone Three Projected Path

As of 10 a.m. Central Daylight Time on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, Potential Tropical Cyclone Three is located about 355 miles southeast of Galveston, Texas and is moving to the northwest at 10 miles per hour.

The system is moving toward the northwest near 10 mph (17 km/h) and this motion is expected to continue through Wednesday night. A turn toward the north-northwest is forecast early Thursday.

On the forecast track, the disturbance is expected to be near the southwest Louisiana coast late Wednesday or Wednesday night, and move inland over western Louisiana and eastern Texas on Thursday.

Potential Tropical Cyclone Three Strength

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. NHC forecasters believe that some slight strengthening is possible before the system makes landfall somewhere along the east coast of Texas or western Louisiana.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 205 miles (335 km) mainly to the east of the center.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect from High Island, Texas to the Mouth of the Pearl River.

A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area, in this case within the next 24 to 36 hours.

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect from west of High Island, Texas to San Luis Pass.

A Tropical Storm Watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, generally within 48 hours.

Interests elsewhere along the U.S. Gulf Coast from the central Texas coast to the western Florida Panhandle should monitor the progress of this system.

Potential Tropical Cyclone Three Spaghetti Models

Computer models for Potential Tropical Cyclone Three's projected path are in slight agreement that the system will track towards western Louisiana and eastern Texas.
